Aberdeen Airport can be found in northern Scotland where the rivers Dee and Don converge. Once a major facility for the RAF, the airport is now owned by the BAA and services both commercial and business air travel passengers who reside near or visit the Granite City. The North Sea industrial centres for oil and gas production have caused this site to be the largest heliport facility in the world servicing over 500,000 passengers per year.
Aberdeen Airport contains one runway and experiences over three million travellers annually. Major carriers including British Airways, Air France and KLM as well as economy carriers such as Easyjet and Ryanair operate regular flights to destinations in the UK and greater Europe. Recent renovation projects include expansion of the runway and upgrades to the terminal to attract additional air carriers.
Aberdeen, airport code ABZ, may be reached by car from the A96 Aberdeen-Inverness Road and lies seven miles north-west of the city centre. Bus and rail systems interconnect with the airport providing full public transportation options. Within the terminal, Internet access including Wi-Fi is provided by Boingo Wireless and may be accessed through a personal account. Food and beverage options include both takeaway and restaurant or pub style service. Duty free shops and currency exchange booths are available beyond the security check.
