Birmingham Airport Overview

Birmingham Airport was opened in 1939, and at the time of writing some seventy years later, it is the sixth busiest airport in the UK, carrying more than 9 million passengers a year.

More are predicted to come through the busy terminal in future, with passenger numbers of 15 million predicted by 2013. It is ideally located close to the M42 motorway making it easily accessible for miles in every direction.

There are a variety of options available to you when dropping off passengers to the terminal. If you use Long Stay car park 1 you can have up to 15 minutes free parking but passengers will need to take the courtesy bus or a short walk to the terminal. Blue Badge holders are entitled to 60 minutes free parking in the drop and go section.

When picking up passengers you can park in the multi-storey short or medium stay car parks for a cost of £1 for 15 minutes or £2 for 30 minutes.

For short stays of 1-3 days it is best to use the short or medium stay car parks which will cost approximately £24.99 for a 3 night stay. Alternatively you can pre-book your car in the long stay car park for £2.99 per day.

For family holidays it is best to pre-book in the long stay car park for as little as £2.99 per day. A courtesy bus is provided to take you the short distance to the terminal.

Valet parking is available at this airport. You just drop your car with an official at the Drop and Go parking and then your car will be kept in a secure car park until your return where your car will be delivered to you outside the terminal. For this service you will need to book in advance and can do this through the airport website.

Public Transport

Taxis are available from outside the passenger terminals. Black cabs can seat up five people with luggage, depending on its size.

The airport has its own Train Station which is one of the best served in the UK, with over 250 train departures per day. There are 9 trains every hour to Birmingham New Street and 7 every hour to Coventry. The journey time from the airport station (which is 500 metres from the passenger terminals) to Birmingham New Street station is between 10 and 20 minutes.

National Express offer nationwide coach services to Digbeth coach station in Birmingham City Centre which has regular connections to the airport.

Taxis
